What is Griptape?
Griptape is the friction-surfaced material used on skateboards/scooters/longboards etc to give skaters better control. Griptape is generally made from silicon carbide and can be purchased as sheets or rolls in a huge variety of colours and designs.
How do I remove Griptape?
The most popular way to remove griptape is by using a heat gun as it is much easier than peeling the grip using a blade. However, too much heat can damage skateboard decks by loosening the adhesive bonding the ply. It can also heat the metal of scooter decks which can burn and weaken. Whichever method you choose, removing grip it is not an easy task so make sure you are in an open area and have the necessary safety precautions in place.
